3 Energy Stocks with Biggest Price Gains in Jan-Mar

Energy stocks have been on the roll since the beginning of the year as the mid-east crisis continues to escalate impacting the energy supply chain and its pricing which has had positive impact on the financials of such stocks in the American market. There were multiple stocks which delivered good price gain in the first quarter of 2024. But, top 3 Energy Stocks delivered biggest price gains in Jan-Mar period with over 30% rise in the stock prices.  Two of the top three were from the petroleum segment while one was from the natural gas sub-segment. Majority of the top performing stocks were listed on NYSE.

Marathon Petroleum Corp topped the chart with 32% price gains and was closely followed by Valero Energy Corp with 31% and Targa Resources Corp with 30% in Jan-Mar period.

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) exhibited dynamic stock performance from January 2nd to March 28th, 2024. Starting at $152.36, its share price closed at $201.5 on March 28th. MPC outperformed the broader market, with a 16% appreciation over the past month, surpassing the Oils-Energy sector’s gain of 8.7% and the S&P 500’s gain of 1.78%.

Valero Energy Corporation (VLO) witnessed strong surge in its share prices from January 2nd to March 28th, 2024. Starting at $130, it reached a high of $184.79 before closing at $170 on March 28th. Despite market fluctuations,  momentum in Valero’s stock continued in March and it managed to deliver price gains of 19% in the month.

Targa Resources Corp. (TRGP) was able to deliver 30% price gains during the first quarter of 2024. Its stock price rose from $86 on 2^nd January to $111.9 on 28^th March. Targa stock had rocky start in the beginning of the year when its stock price fell to $81 in mid Jan but it regained it momentum after recovery by end of January and continued its momentum towards end of March. The stock was able to deliver double digit price gain in the month of March with 13% rise in its share price.
